Yep. Unlike Minerva Presents Minervarama. Caleb as Fry. Peter as...that guy in the robe who only appeared in the first episode. It was either that or Philo T. Farnsworth. Futurama is one of the few things I've parodied that's still around after ten years.
The Jack Benny Show did things like this fairly regularly, which is where I got the idea, hence the cameo. That's how he'd always begin his radio show. As was mentioned a while back, we've got human-type humans so we don't have to figure out what kind of animal Jack Benny would be. I mean, he'd be Jack Bunny according to the Warner Bros. cartoons. And his bandleader, Phil Harris would be a bear, if Disney cartoons are any indication. But with other humans, it'd get tough.
I believe this came out in the middle of the first season of Futurama. I recall mentioning it on a few Futurama sites (I think there were two sites and a webring back then). I don't imagine that it really caught on with them. Just as well, since the rest of the comic wasn't much anything like this. I'm sure some people came for the Futurama parody and stayed to watch the hedgehog tell bad jokes.
Like the Jack Benny parodies, the characters are both themselves and the folks their playing at the same time. Caleb is both himself and Fry. Brisbane is both himself and Bender. Sofia ended up pretty much playing Leela straight. Peter is just lucky to have any lines at all. It was Cyber's idea for Sofia to have that eye-covering ponytail, and I think it's brilliant.
Why Foxtrot? I have no idea. I mean, I kinda like Foxtrot actually. Or I did a few years ago when I last read it. I'm sure I wasn't the only one back then ragging on newspaper cartoonists. Back then, we were a lot less sure of ourselves, and "people who were dissatisfied with newspaper comics" was kind of our demographic.
