This sequence is drawn by Chris Vigneau, whom I met on a Harry Nilsson mailing list. This joke would've worked better if I had mentioned that the rest of Brisbane's family was named after cities (such as his parents, Victoria and Washington, or his brother Sydney). It was on the cast page, at least. Now, since Caleb doesn't believe in the outside world and has no education , how does he know the names of all those cities? That's a very good question.
Does Caleb even have relatives? I mean, everyone must have relatives somewhere. I love the little actions in this comic and how Caleb gets his handprints on the freshly cleaned glass. Brisbane looks cute when he's cleaning the place up. I mean, it's not like it's his theatre. He just lives there.
Caleb knows more about performing than I know about talking about performing. But yes, back in 1999, two weeks was a long time for a webcomic that wasn't Freefall or The Noo Greak Kollum.
Ok, no punchline. Just a dramatic pause to create expectation. The idea of Brisbane sweeping up before the show is very Muppet-ish. Like The Muppet Show, the characters don't have much to do besides perform and don't do much anything outside the theatre.
Again, the Brisbane vs Caleb rivalry. If Caleb were a little less arrogant, he probably would've asked. But he didn't. As far as he's concerned, finding people is one of the things he's good at. Everything is one of the things he's good at, and he'd never admit otherwise.
Yep. Dialect humor. Bad dialect humor that has roots in no accent spoken by man. I like it. Bad accents, strange costumes, and shouting seem to be the fallbacks of amateur comedy.
Chris colored this. I got it in black & white, colored it myself, and put it up. A few hours later, Chris sent me this. His version looked much, much better. I don't think I even have the one I did anymore.
