And (spoiler alert) they never met each other.
The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812, between the United States and Great Britain. Louis XVIII (of the House of Bourbon) was King of France at the time. The first king from the House of Orleans was Louis-Philippe in 1830. He wasn't deposed until 1848, and France wasn't a signatory to the treaty. The two are entirely unrelated. I'm going to pretend that this is Sofia's mistake and not mine.
I recall doing a fair amount of research on modern monarchy to provide depth and material for Sofia. I thought it clever to spend hours making sure I got details that nobody who read the comic would care about or understand. What my research didn't uncover was that she had, in 1999, married her third husband, Ernst August, Prince of Hanover.
It was never mentioned, but Sofia's backstory involved her being a legitimist - supporting the restoration of monarchy throughout Europe and Hippedown. She's very politically conservative in a context that no longer exists. It didn't ever come up because it didn't have anything to do with the rest of the comic. I had intended to do something satirical with it, but never did.
Brisbane is so much bolder when he's pretending to be someone else. Nina pt 4
