"Just the name of the shop" - that's the second time I lifted that joke from the Bonzo Dog Band.
I remember reading a book of clever chemistry-related cartoons. It seemed so much more clever and intellectual, so as a liberal arts major I had to try my hand at it. This is the best I came up with, which is why I didn't try again very often.
I wasn't so much establishing things as leaving options open for some kind of Caleb/Emily interaction. This David is totally different from the David who dated Emily in You Say it First.
I wanted to reiterate Caleb's basic nature. He had very little screen time in the last few months, because, like Sofia, he has a nature that doesn't allow him to interact much with things.
When a character doesn't show up for a few months because you don't have anything to do with them, it's common for them to just quietly disappear. I mean, this happened to Lyman in Garfield, Shermy in Peanuts, and everyone except Opus in Bloom County. I didn't want it to happen to Caleb.
