You'd think that by now Brisbane would learn to stand on the X when Caleb tells him to - it's usually safer that way. In the second panel's painting is Ignatz, from Krazy Kat.
Yes, the portable trapdoor. I know we've mentioned it a lot in You Say it First, despite its cartooniness. How long does it take to install a trapdoor? About as long as it takes a grandfather clock to get delivered.
Now, the only non-working thing Kimberly sold Brisbane, at that point, were the jokes. Whether they were defective or not is a matter of opinion. That arc aired after this one, anyhow (due to art delays). I wish I had done a few more weeks of buildup to animosity.
My, but this one turned out nice. I don't do things like this often. To me, it's kind of like a radio play with pictures; since I don't draw, I don't think of things as visually as other cartoonists.
Kimberly's sign says "The savings are IN". Notary Sojak is from Smokey Stover, this absurd humor comic from the 1950s. I had read about it, but hadn't actually located a copy until years after this aired. I'm kind of an old-comics poser like that. The Impressive Trap
