Why Gene Kelly? No idea. I was writing this joke to introduce the concept. I recall being stuck for a punchline. I think I settled on Gene Kelly because he'd be just familiar enough for the audience to assume there was a joke there but not familiar enough to call me on it. That said, I like the pale Caleb in the first panel.
Caleb and Peter operate on two entirely different forms of cartoon logic. Caleb proceeds reasonably from unreasonable assumptions.
Again, a classic movie punchline. I think that was from something with Rudolph Valentino in it. I should've actually watched classic movies if I were going in that direction. How did Caleb even see movies if he's never been outside? They probably had showed cheap old movies at the theatre between acts or something.
That's Brisbane for you. Caught up in his sleight-of-hand and not noticing hers.
So, yes. All of a sudden, there's movers and a grandfather clock. Like the odd puns or fraggle cameos, I was experimenting in new directions. It'd be funnier if I was always doing stuff like that instead of just doing it once. True Love
