Tate's, our local comic shop, had recently started carrying screentone. We'd pick a couple of them up each week. This one had been in our pile for a few months and it just seemed to fit.
It's somewhere between "sneak" and "teleport", much in the same way that Kimberly's booth is somewhere between "inventory" and "have whatever is needed for the plot". I'm not sure how big the ventilation shafts are in the theatre, but when Nina shows up, the real/magic dial moves two notches closer to magic.
Yes, it's this book. Or at least an excerpt from it.
The script originally included "(Nina covers her exposed ankle, blushingly)" in the stage directions fort he last panel. I'm glad that wasn't how it turned out. It works better if Nina is embarassed at being seen than overly modest.I had remembered this arc as being "Brisbane chooses between Kimberly and Nina". Upon reflection, I don't think it turns out that way exactly. Nina is a very popular character, and I wanted to do more with her. On the other hand, I didn't want to use the common manga trope of "One girl shows interest in moderately unpopular male lead. Within a week, he's got a multitide of women pursuing him".
Why a filler week? I don't remember exactly. My job was requiring more and move overtime, and 14-hour days. The story had reached the Difficult Place (all of my long stories do, at about 2/3 of the way through). Love Nina Again pt 1
